God of Study emerges as leader on Mondays & Tuesdays

Week 2 has yielded more of a disparity between the new Monday-Tuesday shows — while Week 1 was pretty close between all the contenders, it seems the viewers have by now selected their favorites, and the numbers reflect those choices. AGB Nielsen numbers put KBS’s school drama God of Study firmly ahead of the competition with a 21.2% rating for its third episode, leaving its rivals, SBS’s historical medical show Jejoongwon and MBC’s trendy series Pasta, duking it out for second place with a respective 13.1% and 12.8%.

I’m not terribly surprised and I don’t begrudge any one series success over the others, because quality-wise I think all three are solid. They’ve all got their charms and flaws, so this probably boils down to a matter of taste (and buzz, and casting). I suppose in a business sense this is more of a disappointment for Jejoongwon (which went in with more buzz and anticipation than Pasta). The question is whether the numbers will level off here, or if the latter two will fall further.

As for me, I’m sticking with Pasta, and keeping an eye on God of Study. Sorry, Jejoongwon, you’ll have to take a backseat for now, since I’m swamped and I’ve got another sageuk on my plate at the mo’. But what a promising drama season it’s shaping up to be; there’s a nice variety of offerings and a good number of prospects, depending on your preference.

Natural Chemistry in Pasta

A fresh new offering from MBC is a food themed kdrama entitled Pasta. With this production taking over blockbuster saguek drama, Queen Seonduk… there is alot of expectations to fare well in the Monday-tuesday nigth ratings. The story revolves the trials and tribulations experienced by Seo Yookyung (played with bubbly effervencence by actress Gong Hyojin) as she starts from lower rank of chefs at La Sfera, an italian restaurant.

Just as she is promoted to assistant pasta chef position she meets the caustic executive chef Choi Hyun Wook (Lee Seon Gyun) who despises having female chefs in his kitchen. Both are drawn to each other, but Hyun Wook is a force to be reckoned with. He is strict upon seperating his personal and professional life… and while he asks Yookyung if she’d like to date him… he equally reprimands her within the walls of La Sfera’s busy kitchen.

The story is nothing revolutionary, a kind hearted spunky female who ends up melting the icy heart of the male lead. Its a plot that is quite common in korean dramas, but what is most endearing about Pasta is the natural chemistry between the two leads.

Lee Seon Gyun, who has an acting resume that is filled with hunam (guys who are kind and warm) characters does a complete 360 here, his Hyun Wook is a loud, criticizing executive chef who expects perfection from his employees. He is a brilliant, and thinks that women have no place in the restaurant kitchen because of his past experience when he was still training in Italy. His interactions with Gong Hyojin’s Yookyung could feel overaught but the two amazingly holds well with their back and forth banter within the first episode of the series. The goldfish scene in the pilot episode is a prime example, and a joy to watch for any kdrama enthusiast out there.

Kyuhyun mengisi Sountrack K Drama Pasta

Kyuhyun, salah satu anggota Super Junior, akan berpartisipasi di dalam pembuatan soundtrack untuk sebuah drama terbaru keluaran MBC ‘Pasta’, berita ini sudah banyak perhatian dari para fans-nya.

Pada tanggal 4 Januari, selama penayangan ‘Pasta’, Kyuhyun telah membangkitkan kepekaan pendengaran dari penonton dengan lagu ‘Listen..to you’, dimana ini adalah lagu utama untuk karakter Choi Hyunwook (Lee Sunkyun) dan Seo Yookyung (Gong Hyojin) sebagai lagu tema cinta mereka.

‘Listen..to you’ adalah salah satu lagu yang diciptakan oleh Sunghwan (lagu lainnya termasuk Monday Kiss ‘Limpid Tears’, Tim’s ‘Wounded Ankle’, Kim Donghee’s ‘Someday’, Hwayobi’s ‘Anesthesia’ dll.); Kyuhyun yang manis, suara mellow adalah sebuah harmoni yang sempurna untuk lirik ini, dimana lagu ini tentang seorang hati seorang pria dengan hati-hati mendengarkan curhatan dari seseorang yang dia cintai.

Lagu ini pertama kali diperdengarkan dan ditayangkan pada tanggal 4 Januari, dan akan mulai dipblikasikan pada tanggal 6 Januari di Melon, Dosirak, dan site online musik lainnya; album ini diperkirakan akan dijual ke pasaran dan bisa didapatkan pada bulan Februari, dan para fans sudah sangat mengantisipasinya dari sekarang.

Kyuhyun dikenal karena kemampuannya menyanyinya di Super Junior, dan tentu saja dia juga pernah menyanyikan lagu dari Yoo Youngsuk’s Anniversary album dengan lagu ‘7 Years of Love’, pernah ikut bergabung di album SM TOWN dengan lagu ‘Smile’, dan lagu solo lainnya.
